I am William Calloway.

I am a recent graduate of North Carolina State University with a Bachelor in Graphic Design and a minor in Industrial Design. I’ve made this website as a display case for some of my design work from both NC State and my experience in the field. While both my education and professional experience have exposed me to working in multiple different mediums, I find that my interests turn largely towards interaction, information, and interface design. I’m deeply invested in the belief that great design can manufacture intellectually stimulating and emotionally effective experiences, and it is my desire to work to push the limits of how deep and meaningful those experiences can become.

But let’s save that discussion for another time. Right now, let’s talk more about me. This whole website is devoted to the subject, so I implore you to explore.

You can contact me to continue the conversation at willcalloway@gmail.com

Tasked with designing mobile solutions for everyday student problems, these interaction mock-ups for a iPhone application were part of a group effort to help circumvent the constant frustration of printing with open chat lines, dynamic status updates, and on the go troubleshooting.

Collecting the various postmodern essays written by fellow students over the course of a semester, this booklet investigates the psychological principles of marketing in the late-20th and early 21st centuries. Topics covered everything from the Jonas Brothers to Ferrero Rocher. Instead of using call outs or drop quotes, the book uses selective highlighting to further dissect and reorient the essays themselves. Following in it’s theme of television and modern technology, the texts are also occasionally interrupted by static and vertical tracking.

Essays written by Christine Flemming, Nick Romanos, Jen Edwards, Jeremy Purser, and William Calloway.

Based on experiences in competitive Tae Kwon Do sparring, this card game attempts to recreate the strategy and logic of the average match. Players hold illustrated cards representing various strikes, blocks and moves, and play them in order to attack, defend, and move back and forth across a small board. The colored halves of the cards imply the directions of the movements, so orientation during play is important. However, the colored backs allow for predictive strategy on the part of foes, mimicking real life prediction and strategy in sparring. The game is named for a famous quote by Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu.
